Bowl Projection Roundup

This is really just for fun - a roundup of where the major (and some not-so-major) news outlets are projecting Boston College to play. The truth is, nobody has any idea of where BC will end up (even though the "experts" below seem to leave only 2 options). There is merit to arguing that Boston College will end up in just about any one of the possible ACC bowls this year.

The Boise Statesman reports that a "deal to place Boston College in the Gator Bowl" fell through, and says bluntly that if "the ACC can't get the Gator or Peach bowls to take the Eagles, they're coming to [the MPC Computers Bowl in] Boise."

The Globe has hope for the Peach Bowl, and for some reason thinks that it's possible for us to play in the Emerald Bowl.

According to AD Gene DeFilippo:
'There are so many factors involved. It's not just one side, it's how the other side of the game works out. So all we can do now is wait and see what kind of deals are worked out.
And now for the projections...

CBS Sportsline (11/28)
Peach Bowl, vs. Georgia

*USA Today (11/29)
Champs Sports Bowl, vs. Colorado

College Football News (11/28)
MPC Computers Bowl, vs. Boise State

ESPN - Ivan Maisel (11/28)
Peach Bowl, vs. Georgia

ESPN - Pat Forde (11/28)
MPC Computers Bowl, vs. Boise State

Sports Illustrated - Stewart Mandel (11/28)
MPC Computers Bowl, vs. Boise State

Atlanta Journal-Constitution (11/27)
MPC Computers Bowl, vs. Boise State

Minneapolis Star Tribune (11/27)
Peach Bowl, vs. Georgia

Ft. Worth Star-Telegram (11/28)
MPC Computers Bowl, vs. Boise State

Final score - Boise 5, Atlanta 3. Send along any projections I've missed.

Teams who have played in the MPC Computer Bowl in Boise have enjoyed themselves completely. All have commented that the experience was far more than anticipated. Boisians are friendly to a fault and a Boston College vs Boise State
game will be one of great interest.

I'm sure you are right about Boisians, and it would be a fine matchup. I think the problem from BC's perspective is three-fold.

First, a trip to the MPC Computer Bowl would represent a perceived injustice, due to BC's record and the pecking order of the bowls. Nobody ever said the bowl system was fair, or based solely on merit, but you like to think it is when your team is 8-3. When your team is 6-5, who cares.

Second, going along with the perceived injustice thought, a trip to Boise would be an embarassment in light of the recent move out of the Big East. A lot of people don't compulsively read every BC-bowl related story, or even know the basic bowls out there (or how the system works). Many people will see BC in Boise and think "oh, they should have stayed in the Big East," "see what happens, BC?" or "haha, BC got screwed, the ACC is using them and not sticking up for them." That's all garbage for sure, but that's how it would play out, and that explains the BC fan resistance to Boise.

Finally, sometime a few weeks ago Boise achived this sort of mythical status in the hearts and minds of BC fans as the worst "middle of nowhere" city in America and MPC as the biggest joke of a bowl ever - none of which are fair or correct. But that's how it went, and now this perception has taken on a life of its own and snowballed out of control.

My best freind's sister's boyfriend talked to this guy who said he heard Ferris passed out at 31 Flavors last night.

BC will be somewhere in the South.
