Alumni Newsmakers: November 7, 2005

Cambridge (MA) mayor and Double Eagle Michael A. Sullivan (’82, JD '85) is seeking reelection to the City Council and was recently featured in The Harvard Crimson. Sullivan, now in his 12th year on the council, hails from a family once dubbed the “Kennedys of Cambridge."

Nassau (NY) County Executive Tom Suozzi, ’84, is gearing up for his reelection bid. Suozzi was both the youngest-ever mayor of Glen Cove (NY), and the youngest county executive in Nassau history. Perhaps most notably, the Democrat's election four years ago ended an historic and dominating reign by Nassau County Republicans. Though it is all but certain that Suozzi has his eyes on New York's governorship, he would need to challenge popular Attorney General Eliot Spitzer for the Democratic nomination.

Boston Private Financial Holdings, a leading wealth management firm, announced the election of John A. Straus '77 to the Company's Board of Directors. For the past five years, Straus has been the Head of JP Morgan U.S. Private Bank as a Managing Director.

Colin Gallagher '00 has been getting high marks for his work in the revitalization of Smyrna, GA. The young entrepreneur is leading the a $5 million “suburbal renewal” project.

Former Assistant U.S. Attorney Brian T. Moriarty ’83 was recently hired by intellectual property firm Hamilton, Brook, Smith & Reynolds, P.C. Moriarty, who holds a degree from St. John's University School of Law, is one of the few registered patent attorneys who has also served as an Assistant U.S. Attorney, and has received numerous awards and commendations from the FBI, DEA, NYPD and DOJ for his investigative and trial work.


The New England Patriots have signed free agent running back Mike Cloud, who finished his career as Boston College's all-time leading rusher (a record since been broken by Derrick Knight).

Boston Bruins blueliner Andrew Alberts contiues to gain recognition in his rookie season, this time from Bruins legend Ray Borque, who had the fortune of seeing Alberts play at BC while his son Chris was disappointing crowds at Boston University.
