  For Boston, for Boston,
  We sing our proud refrain!

  For Boston, for Boston,
  'Tis widsom's earthly fane.

For here all are one, and
  their hearts are true, and
  The towers on the Heights
  reach to Heaven's own blue.

  For Boston, For Boston,
  Till the echoes ring again!

Boston College Hockey Update

Exhibition vs. St. Thomas

I had the unfortunate experience of rushing up to The Heights this past Friday to catch the men's ice hockey exhibition against St. Thomas, only to witness the game's cancellation after one period. Kelley Rink kept fogging up due to the humidity in Conte Forum, so the officials called the game. The score was 0-0.

Overall, the team looked mediocre, though some of the freshmen showed great signs of potential and goaltender Cory Schneider was definitely on his game. St. Thomas was a worthy adversary; they held off BC on several power plays (including an extended 5-on-3), and took Providence College to OT in the following night's exhibition at PC.

The team opens the regular season this Friday when they take on the undefeated U. of Michigan Wolverines.

Boston College Hockey Alumni Update

Ryan Shannon, former offensive phenom for BC and Hockey East scoring title winner, scored two goals in under 15 minutes during a recent game with the AHL’s Springfield Falcons.

Former BCer Ned Havern is entering his first season as a professional with the ECHL's Trenton Titans. After four years at Boston College, the Arlington, MA native (and product of the public school system) compiled 28 goals and 29 assists in 151 games. Havern was originally selected by the Dallas Stars in ninth round (#273 overall) of the 2002 NHL Entry Draft.

And it looks like BC legend (for scoring the GWG in the 2001 National Championship game) Krys Kolanos is healthy again - he scored in the Phoenix Coyote's first game.

What's up with the rink "fogging up?" What does that mean? Is it going to be an issue this season?Or has the problem been fixed?

And thanks for the updates on the former Heightsmen.

I'm not really sure about the science of it all, but it was very warm and humid all day, and I think that caused the fog. It would be incredibly unlikely to have that type of heat & humidity later in the season (the home opener isn't until 10/28), so I don't think it will be an issue.

And for all I know, Conte has dehumidifiers to prevent this problem, but maybe didn't have them fired up for the game.
