  For Boston, for Boston,
  We sing our proud refrain!

  For Boston, for Boston,
  'Tis widsom's earthly fane.

For here all are one, and
  their hearts are true, and
  The towers on the Heights
  reach to Heaven's own blue.

  For Boston, For Boston,
  Till the echoes ring again!

Boston College Hockey Alum Update

Today’s Boston Herald has an article on the “new-look” Boston College hockey team – new due to the departure of 10 seniors, including standouts Andrew Alberts and former captain Ryan Shannon, as well as junior Patrick Eaves, who opted to forego his senior year to sign with the NHL’s Ottawa Senators. Each of these players has found success at the professional level so far this season.

Alberts continues to prosper in his rookie season with the Boston Bruins. The Herald reports that “it hasn't taken long for rookie defenseman Andrew Alberts to make his presence felt in the NHL.” Alberts is leading the B’s in hits (with 16) and is +2 through 7 games.

Ryan Shannon has recorded a point in each of the AHL’s Portland Pirates' first four games, and has three goals and three assists on the season. This is the first season that the Pirates are affiliated with the NHL’s Anaheim Mighty Ducks, and Shannon was a star in a recent all-rookie preseason game, netting one goal and two assists.

Patrick Eaves was recalled from the AHL by the Senators for the third time this season and will suit up tonight against the Tampa Bay Lightning. The 29th overall pick in the 2003 NHL Entry Draft, Eaves recorded his first NHL point against the Boston Bruins last weekend.

Another top player who left BC early is succeeding in the NHL – Chuck Kobasew had a pair of goals last night to lead Calgary over the Oilers, and now leads the Flames in goals.

Former Boston College superstar Brian Gionta, who once scored a mind-boggling five goals in one period for the Eagles, scored two goals for the second time in two games against Pittsburgh. In that game, it was reported that Brooks Orpik (another former Eagle and Penguins defender) "decided not to pick up Gionta along the goal line" and Gionta subsequently scored. Gionta now has 5 goals with the New Jersey Devils and is tied for 7th among NHL goal scorers this season.

Edmonton Oiler Marty Reasoner scored a goal Tuesday against the Phoenix Coyotes (current club of Krys Kolanos), and now has 3 points on the year.
