  For Boston, for Boston,
  We sing our proud refrain!

  For Boston, for Boston,
  'Tis widsom's earthly fane.

For here all are one, and
  their hearts are true, and
  The towers on the Heights
  reach to Heaven's own blue.

  For Boston, For Boston,
  Till the echoes ring again!

Boston College Celebrates National Coming Out Week

Boston College is celebrating "National Coming Out Week" by providing a number of programs through the various GLBT groups and GLBT allies at the school. The Heights has a recent article on Coming Out Week in general, and this week's events.

The celebration of this event at Boston College is particularly newsworthy, not because it hasn't been celebrated before (the annual "Guess Who's Gay" event, among other programs, has been a mainstay at BC for sometime), but because Boston College was recently excised from the Princeton Review's "Alternative Lifestyles Not an Alternative" (a/k/a/ "Most Homophobic Schools") list. The University of Notre Dame recently earned the #2 spot. See The Heights coverage.

The validity and value of any survey from the Princeton Review is questionable, but Boston College's exit from the "most homophobic" list is at least symbolic of the school's belated progress towards unified acceptance and recognition of the GLBT community.
