  For Boston, for Boston,
  We sing our proud refrain!

  For Boston, for Boston,
  'Tis widsom's earthly fane.

For here all are one, and
  their hearts are true, and
  The towers on the Heights
  reach to Heaven's own blue.

  For Boston, For Boston,
  Till the echoes ring again!

Boston College Beats Wake Forest 35-30

Boston College defeated the Wake Forest Demon Deacons 35-30 this weekend at The Heights. Read about the game at www.bceagles.com. The win was made possible by the last-minute heroics of backup QB Matt Ryan and WR Kevin Challenger, and avenged two heartbreaking losses to Wake in the past two years (which have both been rightfully dubbed "WTF losses").

The Game, By The Numbers

4 - Turnovers that BC QB Quinton Porter was responsible for
6 - TDs on season by linebacker Brian Toal, after another one against Wake
7 - Consecutive seasons that BC has been bowl-eligible, a school record
10 - Number of passes dropped by BC receivers
4 - Number of passes dropped by BC WR Larry Lester
184 - Passing yards earned by Porter in approximately 57 minutes of play
134 - Passing yards earned by backup Matt Ryan in about 3 minutes
1957 - The last time Boston College started a season 6-1
6-5-2 - BC's record in the all-time series against Wake Forest
33,632 - Reported attendance at the game
44,500 - Capacity of Alumni Stadium

The Game, By The Quotes

"Well, just another typical BC-Wake Forest game, except the third time's the charm for us." -Eagles coach Tom O'Brien

"What could have been one of Wake Forest's sweetest wins in recent seasons melted away like a lump of sugar in the rain yesterday on the waterlogged synthetic turf of Boston College's Alumni Stadium." -Dan Collins, Winston-Salem Journal

"What can you say about Tony Gonzalez and Kevin Challenger? Those guys keep making plays at crucial times for our football team." -TOB

"Geez, man. Things just weren't going our way." -BC QB Quinton Porter on BCs woes early on

"About that time, everybody was waterlogged and [backup QB Matt Ryan] was the only dry guy on the field." -TOB

''I thought we were going to win the game the entire time. If there's any doubt that you're going to lose, then you've already lost. As a team, I don't think that we had any doubt." -Matt Ryan

"Matt Ryan is straight up legit, this man is going to kick ass and take names for a long time."

Notre Dame's Big Choke vs. USC

Please indulge me while the Holy War is on hiatus. There were incessant allusions to Boston College's recent domination of Notre Dame in the media coverage before and after Notre Dame's last-minute meltdown against USC. This latest Notre Dame choke job was called the most disappointing loss since the 1993 41-39 victory by Boston College, and the newswriters have been quick to point out that the last time Notre Dame wore Colorado State Rams jerseys, they were embarassed by Boston College 14-7 -- both games on their home turf, and both games spoiling NDs national title hopes.

Even the Notre Dame faithful are admitting that BC "kicked the Irish into over a decade of mediocrity" after the last "Greatest Game Ever Played."
