  For Boston, for Boston,
  We sing our proud refrain!

  For Boston, for Boston,
  'Tis widsom's earthly fane.

For here all are one, and
  their hearts are true, and
  The towers on the Heights
  reach to Heaven's own blue.

  For Boston, For Boston,
  Till the echoes ring again!

The BAIA Discusses BC's Plans for the Chestnut Hill Reservoir

The Brighton-Allston Improvement Association (BAIA) met last week to speculate about the future of the Chestnut Hill Reservoir. There has been mounting tension between BC and the residents of Allston-Brighton, Newton, and Brookline due to speculation that BC is secretly acquiring the reservoir. Read the Boston College Blog's coverage of the story here, here, and here.

A representative from state Senator Steve Tolman's office addressed the BAIA, stating that the reservoir is not for sale and in order to sell it, a 2/3 vote of the state legislature is needed.

Auditi Guha's Latest

Meanwhile, TAB staff writer and Emerson College MA ’01 Auditi Guha just broke the story that local Allston-Brighton residents are upset about noise generated by off-campus students.

The irony of these hackneyed “we hate BC” stories and the tireless call for BC to get all students on campus is that if and when Boston College actually does provide on-campus housing for all students, local landlords will no longer be able to charge parent- and loan-funded tenants the exorbitant rents they currently extort from students. A whole new class of people will infiltrate Foster Street in the ensuing housing vacuum, and trivial complaints about loud noise will yield to shock over increased theft and violent crime.

BC Has Arrived: (Cr)Applebee's Set to Open

In more positive local news, rumor has it that the Brighton Applebee’s in Cleveland Circle (former site of the Ground Round) is opening up today, Monday October 17, 2005. This is truly an historic day in the history of Boston College.

Word on the street is that students are planning to camp out for opening night at Applebees. A small consultation for those who camped out for Basketball tickets, and came away empty-handed.
