  For Boston, for Boston,
  We sing our proud refrain!

  For Boston, for Boston,
  'Tis widsom's earthly fane.

For here all are one, and
  their hearts are true, and
  The towers on the Heights
  reach to Heaven's own blue.

  For Boston, For Boston,
  Till the echoes ring again!

Boston College: In Quotes I

As I will do from time to time (since each soundbyte does not warrant its own post), here is a list of interesting and notable quotes about Boston College that were made in the past few days:

Congratulations to the Boston College Eagles. Their first ACC victory. Went to Death Valley and beat Clemson. We'll be right back.
-Tim Russert, said as somewhat of a non sequitur, at the end of Meet the Press on Sunday, September 25, 2005.

Jump on the Boston College football bandwagon. I have. Incidentally, going to a game at The Heights was a very enjoyable time last year. No loud music, long TV timeouts or in-stadium ads. Just football, thank you very much.

-Kevin Rousseau of PatsFans.com

But maybe we don't even need new traditions, maybe all we need is some new names for our stadiums to join the ACC elite. I mean Death Valley, the Swamp, The Big House; Alumni Stadium doesn't really strike the hearts of opponents with fear, and neither does Conte Forum for that matter. How about we come up with some cool names for them?
-Dave Benoit, Heights journalist

Boston is a masculine town. It is filled with Irish bars, and too many sports teams. There are the Celtics, the Bruins, the Patriots (Foxborough is close enough), and of course the beloved Red Sox. As much as you want to avoid caring, conversations of sports seem to be everywhere. The boys at work swap stats, strangers in parks high five each other as they listen to their AM radios, and women in the Copley Mall restroom chat about the Boston College football game. What is a girl to do? Give in.
-Blogger "Evil Twin #1"

Did you see that brutal tackle where the Boston College quarterback’s helmet flew off when he was slammed by a Clemson defender? Within seconds, thousands of 10-year-olds nationwide were told by their mothers that they’re now playing soccer.

Seriously, that was the most cringe-inducing hit since “Who Let The Dogs Out.”

-Reggie Hayes, Fort Wayne News-Sentinel journalist

Boston College: The only school in this country where you can pay $41 Grand a year to party in a trailer park.

-Blogger John Powell, referring to partying in the Mods

If Boston College wants to become the Catholic equivalent of Liberty University, then it should ban away. However, if it wants to be regarded as a top-rank educational institution, it should allow diversity of opinion

-Blogger "carpundit," responding to the notion that Boston College should not have let Senator Barack Obama address BC freshman because Obama is pro-choice

I love Tim Russert in no small part because he is such a proud BC parent. He ended his graduation speech a few years ago by putting on a maroon BC hat and announcing that his son had chosen BC over Notre Dame and was a member of BC's incoming freshman class. I so want to see him conduct an entire broadcast of Meet the Press wearing a Superfan shirt!

He gave the commencement speech in 2004, which I was on campus for (attending the graduation of a friend), but ended up watching the speech from a "satellite" location (McGuinn 121!). But I remember that moment - it was great! And I have been searching Google Images for a picture of him with the hat on... I have him at the podium, but not with the hat...

Here's a link to the archived video of that speech. Probably not the best image quality but you can pause it and copy the still. He puts the BC hat (a really nice one--which I have never seen at the Bookstore incidentally) on at the very end of the video:

Nice find. I was (and continue to be, actually) very excited when BC launched its new website a couple of years ago, with new uniform visual design standards and all... And I think the people in charge of the website have done a fine job with such projects as @BC and Front Row. But WHY must all of the video clips be RealPlayer, perhaps my least favorite piece of software ever?

I was able to copy a still, but it came out pretty poorly. Now all I need is an excuse to post it...

Yeah I was / am a big fan of BC's new graphic identity too: elegant and understated ... overall very classy, though I think the BC shield looks even nicer without the circle around it (see Wikipedia). The only thing I don't like about the website is all that beige.

Other schools' websites revel in their school colors: Dartmouth Green, Yale Blue, Princeton Orange, Cornell Red ... but Boston College Beige???

I think Fordham's site does a very nice job with Maroon.

We should try to get Russert to wear one of those new BC Superfan scarves the Sunday after the Virginia game ... if BC wins :)
